What Is Rhodonite?
Rhodonite is a mineral consisting of a silicate of manganese with swirling shadows of manganese oxide. It is found in the Ural Mountains of Russia, as well as a few small deposits in Sweden, India, Mexico, Madagascar, South Africa, England, Peru, Brazil, Canada, and Australia, as well as in the US states of California and New Jersey.
Its color can range from pastel pink to a deeper red-ish pink, although some are redder or purple in appearance, and most of them have beautiful black veins running throughout. They can be opaque or clear but are most often opaque in color.
History Of Rhodonite
The stone takes its name from rhodon, the Greek word for Rose – thanks to its beautiful color. Unlike many other crystals, it is a relatively modern stone as it doesn’t have a history that dates too far back.
It was first discovered in the 1790s in the remote Ural Mountains in Russia. At the time, the locals called it orletz, which is Russian for “eagle stone” because eagles would carry small pieces to their nests.
It soon became a popular ornamental stone and was commonly used as a wedding gift for royals, and it is still prized as a very valuable stone today.
Meaning Of Rhodonite
Rhodonite is primarily associated with the heart chakra, also called the Anahata chakra, which is the fourth chakra in the body, located in between the throat and the solar plexus, and it is often called the stone of love.
Rhodonite & The Heart Chakra
As mentioned above, Rhodonite is a healing crystal for the heart chakra which governs our ability to love ourselves and others unconditionally. It is also responsible for our sense of compassion, kindness, forgiveness, and our ability to heal, make peace and nurture others.
Rebalancing and stimulating this chakra with the Rhodonite stone will help you to love yourself and be open to loving and being loved by others – as well as attract new and meaningful love into your life. In the body, the heart chakra supports the health of the physical heart and surrounding areas, such as the lungs, chest, shoulders, arms, and hands.
It is most often thrown off balance by heartbreak and betrayal, but bad eating habits can also contribute to problems with this chakra. Heart chakra blockages can cause a lack of self-love and empathy, trust issues, difficulting finding or falling in love, loneliness, and social isolation, as well as difficulty connecting with others and an inability to move on from the past. Other symptoms can include a lowered immune system and heart palpitations.
Other Benefits & Healing Properties Of Rhodonite
Let’s take a look at the other uses for Rhodonite.
Rhodonite & Spiritual Healing
As mentioned above, Rhodonite can be used to heal and activate the heart chakra. This also puts you in touch with your feminine energy and awakens your intuition, especially in regards to others and finding or attracting twin flames and soul mates.
Rhodonite & Physical Healing
In the physical body, Rhodonite is great for boosting energy levels and supporting heart and circulatory health, as well as the health of the endocrine system. It’s also a good stone for stomach ulcers and auto-immune diseases, supporting good digestion, and healing scars and insect bites on the skin.
Rhodonite & Emotional Healing
Rhodonite is great for healing emotional wounds, mending broken hearts, and putting you on the pathway to unconditional self-love; drastically increasing your mental well-being and allowing you to let go of self-hate and grudges towards others.
If you have issues with trust, abandonment, or betrayal from a previous relationship in your life, this stone can also help to improve your feelings towards other people to build better relationships in the future, as well as help you to see the funny side whilst overcoming these issues.
Rhodonite & Relationships
As mentioned above, Rhodonite is known as the stone of love. As well as helping you heal from past relationships, it also helps you to find new love, true love, and forge meaningful connections with others. In addition, it helps you to avoid toxic people and unhealthy relationships – perfect for people who find themselves drawn into bad situations.
Rhodonite & Success
Rhodonite is great for people who want to achieve success and abundance in fields that relate to helping, nurturing, and healing others, such as health, fitness, cooking, and spiritual leadership, as well as teaching and working with children, animals, or vulnerable people.
Rhodonite In The Home
Rhonodite’s loving energy is perfect for the home environment – helping to create a calm and open atmosphere and inspiring love in everybody who enters your space. This makes it an ideal stone for homes and families that are recovering from loss or divorce.
Is Rhonodite A Water-Safe Crystal?
Water can be a great tool for crystal healing, but not every crystal can be used with water, as some can crumble or even dissolve when exposed to the element. So, is Rhonodite water safe?
Yes! A crystal is generally considered to be water safe when it scores above a 5 on the Mohs Hardness scale; this is a scientific scale that ranks the hardness of a mineral out of 10 by testing its resistance against other minerals. Rhonodite scores between 5.5-6.5 on the scale, making it safe to be used with water.
How To Use Rhonodite
Here are some of the ways in which you can use Rhonodite to heal your heart and attract more love into your life.
Meditation
Meditate whilst holding your Rhonodite stone to connect with it and focus your energy on your chest area, or place the stone on top of your chest if you meditate laying down. It may also help you to chant affirmations about love and self-love and imagine your heart chakra coming into alignment; envisioning it as a bright green or pink light in the center of your chest.
Keep It Close
Rhonodite makes absolutely beautiful jewelry, so wearing the stone for multiple hours a day is a surefire way to achieve some deep heart chakra healing. A necklace would be best to keep it close to your heart chakra, but anything will do!
Alternatively, if you aren’t the sort of person who likes to wear jewelry, you can carry it around with you throughout the day in your pocket or purse.
At Home
You can also place your Rhodonite crystal somewhere central in your home to charge it up with positive loving energy or keep it somewhere significant that you want to feel its presence the most, such as in your bedroom or living area.
With Water
As we mentioned above, you can use Rhodonite with water – which can be extra beneficial for water signs or opening the heart chakra, because it is the element of intuition and sensitivity. You can use water with your Rhodonite stone by drinking crystal-infused water, taking a crystal bath, or spraying some crystal-infused water around your home.
To make crystal-infused water, just leave your piece of Rhodonite in a glass of water overnight and drink it the next day, make tea with it, or spray it around your home. To run yourself a crystal bath, place your crystal in the bottom of the tub.
Cleansing & Charging Rhodonite
As you probably already know, crystals need cleansing and charging regularly, especially if you’re using them for healing purposes. You should cleanse and charge your Rhodonite stone around once a month to clear it of any negative energy that it has absorbed and re-fill it with light and love to keep it vibrating good energy.
The most popular way to cleanse Rhodonite is by sitting it out in the light of the full moon; you can do this by leaving them outside, or simply on a windowsill on the night of the full moon.
You can also smudge it with a sage stick, which is beneficial if you also want to cleanse the surrounding energy or place it next to a cleansing crystal like Selenite if you don’t want to wait for a full moon. For a quick cleanse, you can also run it under the tap. To re-charge your Rhodonite, place it in the sunlight for a while or bury it in the Earth for a day.
Should I Use Rhodonite?
Only you can decide if a crystal is right for your collection, but ultimately, everybody can benefit from the healing powers of this gorgeous stone. That said, we highly recommend it for anyone who is looking to rebalance their heart chakra and anybody who is suffering from heartache, looking to attract new love, or seeking to improve their existing relationships.
Whilst it has no assigned zodiac sign, its energy appears to have an affinity with the sign of Taurus – so if you’re a Tauras, it could be a great crystal for you to have in your collection.
Does Rhodonite Have Any Bad Side Effects?
Side effects with this crystal are pretty rare, although it can attract negative energy, resulting in self-critical thoughts and problems with loved ones, so it’s important that you cleanse it regularly. This can also happen when it’s brand new if it has absorbed too much bad energy from its previous environment.
However, any crystal can cause strange symptoms when there’s something in your energies that don’t align. Again, this is rare, but symptoms can include sleep disturbances, headaches, and feeling sick or off-balance, as well as hot flushes, cold flushes, and energy tingles. It can also cause you to have an upset stomach and experience random pains throughout the body.
Generally speaking, when you feel drawn to a crystal, it shouldn’t affect you badly, but should this happen to you, try cleansing it as discussed above, and if you just don’t click, try a different stone instead.
Is Rhodonite Toxic?
According to the gemstone toxicity table, Rhodonite is of low toxicity, so users need not worry about it touching their skin or somehow ingesting a piece – although we wouldn’t recommend it!
Is Rhodonite Rare?
Rhodonite is a very rare stone, however, it is not too expensive for the majority of people. That said, a high-quality, transparent, eye-clean Rhodonite stone comes at a much higher price point than a small piece for crystal healing.
Where Can I Buy Rhodonite?
As mentioned above, Rhodonite is a rare stone, so there are a lot of fakes floating around, especially on the internet. If you want to get your hands on one of these gorgeous stones or some Rhodonite jewelry, you should stick to reputable websites that you trust. If you buy from an independent seller, look for good reviews and ratings from other customers before making a purchase.
How To Tell If Rhodonite Is Real Or Fake?
The first way to tell if Rhodonite is real or fake is by looking at its appearance. Rhodonite ranges from pale pink to hot pink and can even be red or deep purple with dark inclusions. It is never too symmetrical, and it is also most often opaque; clear Rhodonite is very rare and very expensive, so if you find a piece that is transparent looking and not too expensive or too perfectly symmetrical, it’s probably fake.
The second way to tell if it’s real or fake is by scratching the surface of it with a knife and a piece of Quartz. Steel has a lower hardness level than Rhodonite, whilst Quartz has a higher one, so, if you scratch your Rhodonite on the surface with a knife, it shouldn’t leave a mark. However, if a Quartz crystal is able to leave a mark on your Rhodonite, it is most probably real.
Alternatives & Complimentary Crystals
If you are seeking an alternative to Rhodonite, try Rose Quartz, Green Adventurine, Green Opal, or Emerald. All of these stones vibrate with similar loving energy as Rhodonite for healing the heart.
If you’re looking for stones that complement the energies of Rhodonite to use with it, try Garnet or Carnelian to unleash your true self and balance the softer energy of Rhodonite with some fiery passion for achieving your dreams.
Conclusion
Rhodonite is a rare, unique, and beautiful heart-healing stone with many truly great qualities and benefits for those who use it. We highly recommend this crystal to anybody who is looking to heal and open their heart.
